The land lies between the Dardanelles, sea of Marmara and Edremit bay. It was called Troas or Troad in ancient times. The present location is known as Hisarlik. It was the place of the Troyan war described in the Greek cycle Iliad. The myth says Troyan war was caused because Troyan prince Paris stole Helen, wife of Menelaus, king of Sparta.
The Wooden Horse-At the entrance of the ruins was built 1975. The myth says that horse was used as a war trick. The Troyans took it inside as a gift from Spartans, without knowing soldiers were in it.
